Joshua Cullen

Overview

Barrister

Joshua joined Chambers in 2023, following the successful completion of his pupillage during which he was supervised by Christopher McGeever. As a pupil, Joshua gained experience in all of Chambers’ core practice areas, including commercial disputes, personal injury advisory work, company, insolvency and consumer credit litigation. During his second six, he appeared as Counsel for the Defendant in the High Court, in the unique multi-party dispute of Spellen & 6 Ors v Santander & 6 Ors [2023] EWHC 1361 (KB).

Joshua is regularly instructed to represent consumer finance lenders including in claims arising from commission-based sales models. He has a successful track record at both interim and final Consumer Credit hearings. He is also regularly instructed on defended PPI (‘Plevin’) claims for hearings in relation to ss140A to 140C of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and has experienced continued success with submissions regarding the application of the “reasonable diligence” test under the Limitation Act 1980.

Joshua graduated with first-class honours in Law from the University of Buckingham. Joshua earned distinction in both his LLM in International and Commercial Law and BPTC; as the recipient of both the Sir Christopher Ondaatje and Lord Denning Scholarships.

Prior to joining Chambers, he worked as a county court advocate for LPC Law, attending over 1,200 hearings in the High Court and County Courts.
