Overview
Barrister
Joshua joined Chambers in 2023 and enjoys a busy commercial chancery practice frequently acting in insolvency, financial services, property and commercial disputes.
He appears regularly in both the County Court and High Court and has experience handling all stages of a dispute, from pre-action through to appeal and enforcement. Examples of his recent work include:
- L v Various – Acted for the applicant in a large-scale debt litigation matter, successfully prosecuting a global application for an order setting aside up to 450 default judgments under the jurisdiction of High Court Judges sitting in the County Court for purposes of exercising the power under CPR 3.1(7) to set aside final orders.
- C v S – Acted for the petitioning creditor and supporting creditors in contested bankruptcy proceedings, surviving the petition where the underlying debt had been paid in full on grounds the debts owed to supporting creditors remained in excess of the bankruptcy threshold and where the debtor had played a ‘cat-and-mouse game’ with creditors.
- K v S – Acted for defendant in enforcement proceedings, successfully obtaining a General Civil Restraint Order (GRCO) against a serial litigant who repeatedly pursued vexatious claims.
- B & H v T – Acted for the company obtaining strike-out of a winding-up petition on grounds of abuse of process. Subsequently advancing a counterclaim for malicious prosecution.
- I v I – Acted for defendants in contested Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 proceedings, securing a successful resolution at mediation.
During pupillage, Joshua appeared as sole counsel for the Defendants in the unique multi-party dispute of Lewis v The West Brom [2023] EWHC 1361 (KB).
Prior to joining Chambers, Joshua practised as a county court advocate for LPC Law, where he appeared in over 1,200 hearings in the High Court and County Courts.
Joshua graduated with first-class honours in Law from the University of Buckingham before obtaining a Distinction in both his LLM in International and Commercial Law and BPTC. He was awarded the Sir Christopher Ondaatje Scholarship and the Lord Denning Scholarship from Lincoln's Inn.
Joshua welcomes instructions in all of Chambers’ core practice areas.
